Scholarship Recipients
Maya is our first grantee from New York. She is the daughter of a single mother, and attended the prestigious Bronx School of Science. While there, Maya took many honors and AP courses yet maintained a stellar grade point average.
Maya has likewise been involved in multiple activities. Despite her deafness, she has extensively been involved with children. For example, she was a counselor at the 92nd street YMHA Camp Yomi program. She also has a particular interest in art, and thus has been very involved in that field, including studying film production. Her letters of recommendation waxed eloquently about her. Comments such as "...in the top ten percent of students whom I have instructed..." and "she is an inspiration" abound.
Maya will be attending George Washington University this fall. She currently plans a career in Public Policy in Washington, D.C. with the goal of helping children with disabilities.
