Erin teaches Early Childhood Special Education at a charter school in Washington, DC. She attended William and Mary College, with the goal of becoming a teacher, and then taught kindergartners in Virginia Beach as a Teach for America corps member. Erin, from the rural town of Prince George, Virginia, graduated from Maggie L. Walker Governor's School. Her hearing loss was first discovered at age four, but by then she had already taught herself to read lips. She says that frustration because of "an inability to communicate" made her a creative problem solver to determine the most effective ways to communicate in various settings. Erin just moved to Texas and will be working as an intervention teacher this year, and is only two courses away from finishing her master's degree!
