Mara graduated from Northeastern University with a degree in environmental science. She works as a science educator and naturalist for the nonprofit Alaska Geographic at Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, with periodic stints working as a bicycle tour guide. She has previously worked to support university study abroad programs, and develop solar projects and farm-based anaerobic digester projects across New England. Mara attended Northeastern University in Boston, where she was involved with multiple student organizations on campus, serving as Executive Director of the environmental science group on campus, co-leader of the DivestNU movement, and a peer tutor in the College of Science. She also ran for the school’s Division 1 level cross-country team. She studied abroad several times, traveling to Iceland, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, American Samoa, Fiji, and New Zealand.
